Photography

NREL's photography supports our vision of an affordable and secure energy future through people-focused, authentic, action-oriented, dynamic, and demonstrated imagery.

People-Focused: NRELians

NREL photos feature people—not only equipment, machinery, or buildings—to convey staff's vital role to the laboratory's mission and capture their enthusiasm for our leadership in changing the world.

Authentic

NREL photographers maintain the laboratory's standards of integrity and accuracy by capturing photos that authentically portray subjects. These photos show real and imperfect moments that are relatable and engaging. Images are not manipulated or retouched to enhance or distort people or events. They provide an emotional connection and depict the current state of our technology and research.

Although stock photography is appropriate for conveying futuristic concepts, geographic context, and backgrounds, it should be used sparingly.

Collaborative

We carefully and intentionally select photos that reflect our culture of teamwork and shared innovation. Showcasing genuine collaboration highlights the strength of our partnerships, the dedication of our employees, and the collective effort behind our work. From brainstorming to execution, we capture moments that demonstrate how we solve challenges together, leveraging diverse expertise to drive progress.

Demonstrated

Our images also demonstrate our commitment to safety. NREL photographs show that our team follows location-specific safety protocols and uses proper personal protective equipment. NREL research and activities span basic science to deployment.
